Key benefits and features for ICSA A&A

Benefits
1. DDA/ ADA Legal Compliance – helps meet the needs of the DDA UK, ADA US, EU Human Rights etc with web content that is not only technically accessible but practically accessible and usable.
2. TCF – Treating Customers Fairly – for financial services industry clients – how to help meet the needs of the FSA guidelines on ‘Treating Customers Fairly’ by providing audible and accessible content, and a right click ‘jargon buster’ facility to provide instant explanations of technical terms and acronyms.
3. Corporate Responsibility – helps provide inclusivity, accessibility and usability to those with communication disabilities and difficulties – visual, physical, literacy, learning, or language.
4. Competitive advantage – with over 90% of web content as ‘read only’ any first mover to take advantage of new TTS technology with low latency delivery of content is likely to create greater competitive advantage.
5. Reach for 20%+ – At least 20% of customers (see below) have some form of communication diversity issues. Extending marketing and Communication reach in itself is a goal which then drives client loyalty.
6. Retention for the other 80%+ – Studies by Cisco show that there is a 20%+ greater retention of messages for all users in basic and higher level learning with multi-modal delivery i.e. sight & sound. Greater message retention be it internally e.g. safety and other training or externally in product recall is a marketing and communication goal in itself.
7. Risk Reduction - With class action lawsuits in the US like Target.com and UK legal action like the Met Police v Paterson, TLR July 2007 (dyslexic Inspector) the time, money, and bad PR of disability lawsuits makes investment in audible and accessible communication a goal in itself.
8. ROI – Given all the above reasons for Eversheds, the overall effectiveness of web and intranet spend are maximised.
9. Improved time management – any html documents can be downloaded to mp3 for flexibility of access, so data can be accessed when reading is not an option e.g. when commuting.

Features
10. Talking keys for the visually or physically impaired– navigation available through ‘Hot Keys’ instead of a mouse; instant talking content available without a download, pop-up, or application.
11. Background colour adjustments for the visually impaired – the user has a variety of options for the background colour, to reduce glare.
12. Instant text enlarger – for those who need large print.
13. Instant audible content for those with reading difficulties – such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, or aphasia.
14. Instant Dictionary and Thesaurus – instant spoken definitions support understanding for those with English as a second language, or with learning difficulties.
15. Jargon Buster – definitions of acronyms, technical terms, and corporate language available at a click. This is customised to suit website content.

* We have assumed in the above that both web and intranet meet technical accessibility requirements as recommended by W3C. The above reasons add to the technical accessibility with the practical and usability features of sight, sound and sense tools.
